Grab some beads (or legos, bear counters, playdough, etc.). Create a pattern and place those beads on the counter. Let your child continue the pattern.
Pattern Ideas: AB, ABB, ABC, ABCD, ABBC
Next let your child create his/her own patterns using the beads and you (or a sibling) complete it. Once a pattern is completed you can take one bead away from the pattern and see if your child can figure out what's missing.
Bonus Activity:
Grab a string or pipe cleaner and make a bracelet with a pattern!
Why?
Pattern awareness is so important to be successful in math. Seeing and making patterns help children make predictions based off their observations.
